Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor Technology
Fiber Optic Sensing Measurement
Timbercon Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor Technology is ideal for pressure sensing, temperature sensing, fluid-level measurement, position measurement, vibration measurement, aerospace industries, medical industries, and industrial engineering.
Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors have been used for years in many demanding harsh environment applications as an alternative to traditional electrical and mechanical sensors. Generally, FBG sensors offer higher accuracy, longer stability, smaller size, immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and the ability to measure ultra-high speed events.
FBG sensor technology relies on some sophisticated technology and physics. Laser light travels through a fiber optic cable core in a very defined manner. A Bragg grating is introduced onto the core of a fiber and the many reflections off of this grating creates a stable sensor. Any strain, (temperature, pressure, vibration, etc.) to the fiber at the Bragg grating will cause a shift and magnitude change of the reflections. This change allows for very accurate measurements to be performed either over a long period of time or in an ultra-fast event. (Additional technological information is available upon request.)
Almost all FBG assemblies and systems are customized for each specific application. Individual fiber optic cable assemblies with Bragg gratings (uniform or chirped spacing) can be provided for use with existing monitoring equipment. Complete with multi-channel detector modules, including ASE light sources and interrogation monitors, can also be developed to meet demanding requirements. Contact your Timbercon representative to discuss your specific application, required measurement, event speed, and necessary accuracy so that a solution can be identified and produced to exceed your expectations.
