Mitsubishi International Corporation Names Timbercon VAR for ESKA™ POF
Timbercon, Inc., a fiber optics product and solutions manufacturing company, is expanding its technology capabilities by becoming a value added reseller (VAR) of ESKA™ POF (plastic optic fiber), which is developed by Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd. (MRC) and supplied by Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC). Timbercon’s alliance with MIC will allow Timbercon to offer POF solutions to OEM customers for applications including medical devices, imaging, industrial light pipes, and fiber illumination.
ESKA is a high performance optical fiber developed over 30 years ago by MRC and has emerged as the leading POF source for superior performance and reliability. POF incorporates optically pure (FDA approved) biocompatible PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate polymer) core and a special transparent polymer clad outer layer. The fiber can be provided in “bare” not jacketed (CK and SK series), black polyethylene (PE) jacket (SH and GH series), gray polyvinyl chloride (PVC) jacket (GHV series), black chlorinated PE jacket (GHCP series), black crosslinked PE jacket (BH series) and more in sizes ranging from 250µm to 3mm diameter. The ESKA series features tight bending radius, superior flexibility, and cycled bending capabilities. It is specifically designed for the visible spectrum but can also be used for short distance light transfer in the IR and UV spectrums. It also has an extensive operational temperature range from -55◦C to + 105◦C.
“With Timbercon’s expertise as a fiber optic application solutions leader and MRC’s position as the world’s principal manufacturer of high performance plastic optical fiber, we can now offer our customers the best possible technology to solve their demanding requirements,” said John Lee, Timbercon’s VP of Sales & Marketing. “As a value added reseller (VAR) for MIC, Timbercon is now able to utilize our high quality, superior performing plastic optical fiber for their OEM customer’s unique applications“ said Lei Ge, Western Sales Manager, MIC.
